Kernow Seaweed Aquaculture Trust
Welcome to our Trust where we provide the highest level of expertise and skill in the aquaculture industry. Our training academy is the first Academy in the South West of Cornwall and provides training, skills, development and new technologies within the aquaculture industry.
Mission
Our mission is to share the latest technologies, skills and research from the seaweed aquaculture industry to our home in the county of Cornwall. We want to help local people and families, with employment and careers in seaweed farming through excellent training schemes. Within our mission we also want to promote women in renewable energies and aquaculture through STEM outreach and internships into a professional career.
Aims
The Seaweed Aquaculture Academy Trust aims to contribute to the growing UK industry of seaweed aquaculture. By supporting the need for standardisation and procedures in the production of growing, harvesting and processing seaweed. We aim to be involved in current research into coastal erosion, carbon sequestration, protecting local habitats and biodiversity through advocating for HPMA's and the wildlife corridor along the West of England coastline. Finally we aim to support local talent and families into employment through training, skill development using new technologies and delivering qualifications into seaweed aquaculture.

How we will achieve our goals
Project one - research and collaborations
Working alongside academics and professionals in the industry to develop more understanding into the benefits of carbon sequestration and how seaweed farms can slow the process of coastal erosion.
Project two: Aquaculture courses
Working with educators and professionals to design and produce a aquaculture course that focuses on the skills needed to build a career within the industry in the UK. This will be delivered through a combination of workshops, courses, mentorships and internships.
Project three: Local conservation
Be involved in the seaweed surveying locally and providing data to help further understand the seaweed that frequents our shores and how important they are to local food webs. Support the national effort to have more MPA's for a variety of species, ensuring we are protecting the oceans and the environment for future generations.
Project four: Connecting with women in STEM
Working alongside industry organisations to highlight early professional careers and women in scientific roles. Building a network and continuing to inspire women into STEM industries, specifically aquaculture.
Project five - supporting industry growth and excellence
The UK sector in Aquaculture is relatively new and is in a space of growth. We will work with other organisations, professionals and academics to help shape and lead the way in policy development and growth in aquaculture.
